Hinton Admits Radiologist Prediction Was Wrong: Jevons Paradox and Misreading the Job

Dan Jeffries argues Hinton finally admitted his famous 2016 prediction that radiologists would be obsolete in five years was wrong, because he misunderstood 1) Jevons Paradox — cheaper and easier imaging means demand explodes — and 2) what radiologists actually do. Jeffries extends the point: domain geniuses are rarely best placed to predict their field's societal impact, and suggests the same may apply to Hinton's warnings about AI risk.
