Anima Anandkumar's Caltech team completes Navier-Stokes proof with Lean formalization
AnimaAnandkumar · x · 2026-09-09
Caltech professor Anima Anandkumar publicly credits her team amid controversy over the Navier-Stokes-related result:
- Adarsh Ganeshram joined her group as a teenage undergrad researcher and, with Valentin Duruisseaux, made PINNs work, then derived stability results.
- The proof was formalized in Lean by Robertljg and collaborators.
- A companion paper with the detailed non-linear stability analysis needed to complete the proof, starting from the PINN profile, is being released; the blog post has been updated.
A notable milestone for neural-network-assisted math proofs and real-world use of Lean formalization in AI for Math.
