Quoting mathematician Greg Burnham's prediction: if he lost on Navier-Stokes, it would likely be a counterexample, since P(counterexample | Millennium Problem resolved) was widely seen as large—while RH, Hodge, BSD, and P vs. NP resolutions would all be surprising. Rishi Bommasani notes that knowing why you'd lose is still commendable, even if it was the consensus view.
