MIT TR35 Honoree Shuang Li Uses Language Models and UVA to Make Robots More Adaptable

Shuang Li, a research scientist at Google DeepMind, has been named to the 2025 MIT Technology Review 35 Innovators Under 35 for her work in robotics. During her PhD at MIT, she contributed to research showing language models can guide robot decision-making. As a postdoc at Stanford, she led development of UVA (Unified Video Action), a training model that helps robots transfer learning across environments. UVA teaches robots not only what actions to take but also how actions change visual observations, preventing confusion in unfamiliar settings. Released in 2025.
