Michael Nielsen doubles down in his exchange with Noam Brown: if the system had web access, it would plausibly have seen the rumors (about the claimed Navier-Stokes solution), and "let's look at the logs" would be a very natural thing to pursue. He adds that OpenAI has demonstrably poor situational awareness about this kind of information leakage.
