Jürgen Schmidhuber pushes back against claims that AGI has arrived: today's AI only works well in the virtual world behind the screen, and no robot can match a plumber or even a capuchin monkey in the physical world. He argues the Turing Test is a poor measure of intelligence, and true self-improvement requires self-improving hardware rather than existing meta-learning software. He also links his continuously updated annotated history of modern AI and deep learning (arXiv:2212.11279), a timeline spanning the 1676 chain rule to the first working deep learning algorithms in 1965.
