Making a real Game Boy Advance game with GPT-6 Astra

HugoDuprez · x · 2026-09-08

Developer Hugo Duprez built a Game Boy Advance ROM that actually runs on real hardware using GPT-6 Astra: a medieval pixel-art turn-based archery duel inspired by the classic Flash game Bowman.

His initial prompt defined the core game loop, art direction, and controls (D-pad for angle/power, A to shoot, gravity and wind affecting arrow arcs, headshot damage, best-of-three matches, believable AI aiming mistakes with difficulty settings), and the model generated assets via Sprite Fusion's API. Prompts, assets, and the ROM are published in his blog post.
