x402 is a closed corporate spec, not open source — and a credits system beats it

Developer HotAisle publicly criticized the x402 payment protocol: it is not open source but a spec developed by corporations behind closed doors for their own benefit. Agentic tools don't need it at all — a standard credits system works better, since you always need customer contact info, which x402 doesn't solve. That forces account creation and credit top-ups anyway, making x402 redundant. Verdict: a solution looking for a problem.
