Researcher predicts LLMs will match math-level contributions in applied sciences within 12 months
dioscuri · x · 2026-09-08
Researcher dioscuri has preregistered a prediction: over the next 12 months, LLMs will begin making the same kinds of contributions in applied sciences that they are now making in mathematics.
The prediction is a direct answer to Dwarkesh Patel's long-standing challenge — that AI researchers respond to concerns about fundamental model limitations only with "scale solves this," without a substantive rebuttal. dioscuri expects the question to be settled within a year.
