AI data center developer Crusoe raised over $3 billion at a $30 billion post-money valuation on September 3 — up from $10 billion at its Series E less than a year earlier. Its clients include OpenAI, Microsoft, Meta and Oracle, with quantitative trading giant Jane Street's five-year $13 billion cloud agreement acting as the biggest catalyst for the round.

Founded in 2018 by Chase Lochmiller (ex-Polychain Capital partner) and Cully Cavness, the company began by trucking power generators and mining rigs to oil wells to monetize flared natural gas for Bitcoin mining; seven years later, the customer is OpenAI. The thesis: AI compute ultimately comes down to electricity.
