OpenAI appears to claim its AI solved Navier-Stokes, one of the seven Millennium Prize Problems with a $1M bounty — trailing only the Riemann Hypothesis and P vs NP in fame.
Drama erupted: a mathematician who spent a year on the problem (with AI) alleges OpenAI raced to the finish after his work leaked to them, then pressured him to drop his co-author who works at Anthropic (reportedly involving Alpoge and Buckman's Codex-based work).
Only the mathematician's result on a neighboring problem is verified; OpenAI's proof of the real problem is unrevealed and the company hasn't responded to the accusations.
