UChicago Law pilots AI ban in core 1L classes, Berkeley Law to bar AI from all graded work by 2026

Per the FT, two top US law schools are restricting AI even as the legal industry adopts it:
- University of Chicago Law School will pilot a ban on electronic devices in core first-year classes this fall, removing AI from foundational instruction.
- Berkeley Law's default policy, effective summer 2026, bars AI from conceptualizing, outlining, drafting, revising, translating or editing any work submitted for credit.
The poster argues schools should teach ethical, correct AI use rather than banning it outright.
