In a joint Asterisk Magazine essay, the authors of AI 2027 (Kokotajlo et al.) and AI as Normal Technology (Sayash Kapoor, Arvind Narayanan) map their shared ground: both agree AI is a normal technology before strong AGI. The real disagreement is whether AI automates AI research and triggers a radical superintelligence-driven transformation, or yields gradual, electricity/internet-style economic growth.
