Meta researcher calls out AGI hype: 'booking a haircut' isn't Einstein-level intelligence
GaryMarcus · x · 2026-09-08
Meta researcher junsong published a pointed critique of AGI marketing: "The AGI I imagined was an Einstein-level intellect backed by massive compute, curing diseases and advancing science exponentially. Instead, people see an AI messing around in Blender, computer use, or booking a haircut appointment and call it AGI."
He also took aim at Nvidia's CEO: "Respect to Jensen, but his business depends on selling hardware to every AI company out there, so of course he has to play along with the AGI marketing hype." Gary Marcus amplified the thread.
