University of Chicago and Berkeley Law schools move to restrict student AI use

Per FT, as legal practice adopts AI, two top law schools are tightening rules: University of Chicago Law will pilot a ban on electronic devices in core first-year classes this fall, removing AI from foundational instruction, while Berkeley Law's default policy effective summer 2026 bars AI from conceptualizing, outlining, drafting, revising, translating or editing submitted work.
