x402 gives agents price tags per call, enabling economic reasoning, says Coinbase dev lead

kleffew94 (GTM Lead at Coinbase Dev) explained on Stabledash that giving an agent an API key leads to endless endpoint spam until the budget is gone — x402 instead attaches a price tag to every tool call.
Pricing surfaced in context lets agents weigh a call's expected benefit against its marginal cost, something API-key access can't accurately provide. "Money is the coordinating principle that aligns the global economy," he argues — "an agent aligned with a user is one aligned with the user economically."
