GitHub launches HydraFusion: multi-model orchestration matches Opus 5 quality at lower cost
unixterminal · x · 2026-09-08
GitHub introduced Project HydraFusion, a research preview that delivers frontier-quality coding via runtime multi-model orchestration. It builds a full execution plan and picks from models across providers, choosing between three patterns: Single (one model), Cascade (efficient model drafts, quality gate escalates to stronger models), and Critique (one model drafts, an independent read-only critic from a different provider revises).
In controlled offline evaluations, HydraFusion's selective coding workflows matched or exceeded the evaluated Opus 5 baseline while cutting estimated workflow cost. It extends GitHub's Auto model selection strategy, automating semantic routing across local, cloud, and compound models—developers just pick HydraFusion like any other model.
