UK GP: AI medical scribes make more errors than humans, saving no time

An out-of-hours GP in the UK writes to The Guardian raising concerns about AI scribes being rolled out in the NHS.
Her firsthand experience: AI-generated consultation notes are invariably long, duplicative, and sometimes self-contradictory; the history she takes often differs significantly from what's listed. She states she finds meaningful errors far more often in AI consultations than in ones typed by colleagues, so she can never trust them.
She also disputes the time-saving claim: the original clinician must proofread long, repetitive AI notes, which is notoriously hard under time pressure. An NHS watchdog has already warned that AI scribes get drug names and diagnoses wrong. The letter reflects growing European skepticism about AI transcription in medicine.
