Gary Marcus published a partial list of times people declared AGI had been achieved: the Twitter speculation over 'what Ilya saw' (Nov 2023), Sam Altman's Jan 2025 blog post, Tyler Cowen's April 2025 post on o3, and Jensen Huang's statements in Feb 2026 on Lex Fridman and Sept 6, 2026 on X regarding Astra. Marcus says he fully expects AGI someday, but argues every declaration made before then is premature, and invites additions to the list.
