Matthew Clifford is stepping down as founding Chair of UK research agency ARIA after completing his first four-year term, to avoid his new role at Anthropic becoming a distraction. He will stay on in a transitional capacity until 6 November while the search for a new Chair begins.

Clifford called ARIA a bold national experiment building programs across neurotech, climate science, and life sciences, with CEO Kathleen Fisher continuing to lead the agency.
