Google AI Overviews adds interactive character counter, squeezing word-count sites

Google's AI Overviews now shows an interactive Character Counter widget directly in search results for character-count queries, spotted by Damir B and reported by Search Engine Roundtable. Sites like wordcounter.net that exist solely for counting characters are expected to suffer heavily — the latest example of Google answering queries in-SERP (after weather, dictionary, movies, emojis) and making standalone tool sites obsolete.
