Per updated reporting from The Information (via The Next Web), Mira Murati's Thinking Machines Lab is in talks to raise $5-6 billion at a pre-money valuation of at least $40 billion — far above the $1B figure still circulating. Nvidia would provide roughly half, with Accel in talks to lead. Nothing is signed yet. Nvidia's incentive is clear: the new lab will need enormous compute. The author hopes another serious open-weight contender will boost competition.
