The World Bank released results from El Salvador's AI tutoring pilot: OECD's PISA for Schools test across 171 pilot schools and 1,198 students showed reading, math, and science above the national average and in line with Germany and Sweden. In 2022, El Salvador's first PISA had only 11% of students reaching basic math level. But the fine print matters: AI tutors were one piece of a bigger program that also included structured learning sessions, teacher and principal coaching, new student materials, and constant progress monitoring.
