SerpApi quietly built its own 3.2B-page search index, decoupled from Google

Search API company SerpApi has quietly built its own search index: in public alpha since February and now in preview, it covers 3.2 billion pages and requires no Google or proxies at query time.

The reason it went public is notable: according to Reddit's counterclaim, the Reddit-Google data deal blocks SerpApi from competing in search — surfacing the dispute into the open. The development could matter for the SEO and search ecosystem as an independent third-party index emerges.
