A cybersecurity practitioner with 12 years of field experience, @LiminalPanda, argued that AI futurism — "or more correctly doomerism" — couldn't be more disconnected from practical security knowledge and what's actually happening at the frontlines.
In his original post he noted too few cybersecurity specialists are publicly grappling with AI's medium-term exponential implications, saying it's worth being vocal given a surplus of people either turning the future into marketing schlock, loudly denying any risk, or making claims unmoored from reality. AI safety researcher joshuasaxe pushed back, asking how his original post read as advocating doomerism.
