An MIT CSAIL PhD student will defend "Physics-Constrained Generative Models for Computational Design" on Sept 8, 2026. Thesis: generative models can propose designs at high throughput, but the physical world is the ultimate judge — a candidate only counts if it can be realized and meets functional requirements. Committee includes Kaiming He, Bill Freeman, and Wojciech Matusik. Scobleizer reshared it, noting a PhD once lifted his family out of poverty.
