Developer finds Eve's official tutorial riddled with failures, including tools reporting false success
philnash · x · 2026-09-07
Developer philnash shares deep disappointment with @eve's official getting-started tutorial, listing failures hit within the first half:
- Connecting an OpenAI subscription kept erroring — the tutorial never mentions Codex CLI must be installed first;
- It asks users to "connect a warehouse" no ordinary user has, though the local SQL setup worked;
- Docs recommend Vercel Connect, which turns out to be private beta — a questionable choice for a starter tutorial;
- The Sandbox section has you chart with Python and matplotlib but never explains installing either, nor how to extract the chart from the sandbox filesystem;
- Worst of all: the chart was never generated because matplotlib wasn't installed, yet the tool ignored the failure and reported success.
The author is only halfway through, implying more issues may follow.
