Aging researcher Dr. Morgan Levine argues the real bottleneck for AI in medicine isn't experiment pace or regulatory approval — it's that we haven't fundamentally rethought how we treat disease.
The dominant paradigm is still target → drug → clinical trial → approval. But most major chronic diseases, aging included, have no single cause or target, and cure attempts have largely failed. Even if AI massively accelerated this end-to-end pipeline, it wouldn't revolutionize human health.
Her case: AI should be used to confront biological complexity head-on and enable entirely new ways of treating disease, not just speed up the existing one.
