Dell COO: AI boom means shortages across DRAM, NAND, CPUs, disks and more

Dell's blowout second quarter was fueled by AI infrastructure demand, and COO Jeff Clarke detailed shortages at nearly every layer of the hardware stack: DRAM, followed by NAND, spotty CPU shortages, disk drives, plus constrained power components, substrates and optical parts across leading nodes.
"Welcome to the life of a supply chain person at Dell Technologies. This is what we do, chasing parts. We love it," he said on the earnings call.
With demand outrunning supply and PC demand softening, Dell has been shifting components toward its infrastructure business earlier this year, treating constant parts-scrambling as a core competitive advantage.
