Same AI request emits 8.5x more CO2 in Texas than in Sweden

Berget AI's per-request measurement shows an identical AI request can emit 8.5 times more CO2 on Texas's gas-heavy grid than in Sweden, which relies heavily on hydro and nuclear.
The finding underscores that AI's carbon footprint depends as much on data center location and grid carbon intensity as on model and hardware efficiency, supporting carbon-aware routing of inference workloads.
