China's memory push splits into three roles: CXMT dies, YMTC NAND, XMC stacking

Analysis cited in this post argues China's memory industry now runs as three companies with three jobs: CXMT makes DRAM dies, YMTC makes NAND and is putting DRAM into its newest fab, and XMC — a foundry controlled by YMTC — exists to stack what the other two make. Since late December, Beijing only approves new fabs if procurement tenders show at least half the equipment is domestically made, with waivers only where no domestic option exists. YMTC's Phase 3 in Wuhan is the first leading-edge memory project to clear the rule and starts up late this year. The poster adds that XMC currently only packages YMTC's own DRAM, still in risk production, while CXMT packages its chips in Shanghai.
