Reddit user suspects ChatGPT page layout deliberately blocks saving conversations as PDF
TheConceptBoy · reddit · 2026-09-06
A Reddit user suspects OpenAI deliberately prevents offline saving of ChatGPT conversations: chats are split into segment divs and JavaScript appears to unload contents outside the visible window.
Printing yields pages of blanks with only the scrolled-to section embedded; asking the model to generate a PDF returns only the visible segment too. The HTML doesn't hide but completely erases the content, so it can't be toggled back on.
The author argues this looks like deliberate sabotage to keep users coming back to the online tool rather than meaningful optimization.
