Claude's Reddit access block and new URL guardrails break developer's mirror-proxy workaround

mjsarfatti · reddit · 2026-09-06

A developer vents that Anthropic has locked down Claude's access to Reddit: the model refuses to fetch it and hard guardrails enforce it.

His workaround—a self-built mirror proxy plus instructions to never touch Reddit directly—worked until a new safeguard landed: Claude now only visits URLs that come directly from its search tool or are explicitly mentioned by the user, killing the proxy approach.

He's asking the community for solutions, arguing it's absurd that Claude can't read a relevant Reddit post for a user-initiated request.
