Xiaomi humanoid robot logs 98% success on factory tasks with 66 DoF, half in the hands

At the 2026 World Robot Conference in Beijing, Xiaomi showed a new-generation humanoid robot whose key upgrade over 2022's CyberOne is its hands: 66 degrees of freedom across the body, half of them in the hands.

Xiaomi says the robot has spent months training inside its EV factory, reportedly hitting 98% success on self-tapping threaded insert work and 90% on component sorting and returnable box folding.

The author argues the humanoid race is shifting from walking to manipulation—gripping, sorting, folding, handling flexible parts—and the first truly useful robot will be the one whose hands can do real work, not the most human-looking one. Deployment is still early.
