Models over-edit code written by other models, researchers find
pbaylies · x · 2026-09-06
- Researchers measured what happens when one model edits code written by another model: different training data produces different coding styles, and this leads to a strange behavior — models tend to over-edit code authored by other models.
- This has real engineering implications: once a repo contains commits from more than one model, each subsequent model's edits are altered by these stylistic differences — a phenomenon worth deeper research and attention in AI-assisted development workflows.
