BioTorch launches in beta: 116 PyTorch exercises to onboard researchers into biological AI

Chris Hayduk has launched BioTorch (biotorch.chrishayduk.com) in public beta, a practice workspace designed to give researchers a clear path into biological AI.
His thesis: LLMs benefit from abundant tutorials, courses, and minimal implementations that make the road from curiosity to contribution legible for people from math or physics, while bio AI lacks such resources — friction that means fewer researchers, startups, and ultimately fewer life-saving cures.

- 116 PyTorch exercises and 17 model guides covering attention, protein geometry, diffusion, sequence models, and genomics
- A three-step practice loop: understand the operation's math and shapes → implement it with raw PyTorch tensors in an isolated environment with automatic checks on values, shapes, and gradients → revisit via FSRS spaced-repetition scheduling built on submission history
- Framed as exercises in model components, not full model reproductions
