Part 3/4 of Andrew White's thread: he gave top frontier models a paper outline (section headings plus bullet points) and asked them to complete the paper. Even in this contained hand-held setting, the output wasn't just poor but embarrassing — no compelling global structure, cringeworthy prose, and no particularly interesting results.
