Ex-OpenAI VP Miles Brundage: leading AI labs won't open a decisive time gap

Former OpenAI research VP Miles Brundage explained why he thinks no lab will build an insurmountable lead: compute remains a serious bottleneck bounding capability gains per unit time; the labs pursue sufficiently similar directions, so nobody gets totally blocked as long as they keep throwing compute and talent at it; and the human skill gap is small. He likens it to rockets taking off around the same time — a head start buys altitude, not a big time gap.
