GIFT targets the 'action-sufficiency gap' in robot vision for manipulation

The GIFT robotics research project highlights the "action-sufficiency gap": robots can see a lot and capture rich semantics, yet understand little of the geometry, affordances, and goals needed for actual manipulation. Its approach is to steer intermediate visual features toward structures that genuinely matter for control, making representations actionable rather than merely descriptive.
