Gemini desktop app morphs into superapp; Nano Banana 2.5 Flash spotted
testingcatalog · x · 2026-09-05
TestingCatalog reports Google is turning the Gemini desktop app into a superapp rivaling Codex and Claude Desktop:
- New Ask/Assign mode toggle (like Codex's Chat/Work); Assign lets users scope the agent to a chosen folder, similar to Gemini Spark
- Computer use integration to drive local apps from Gemini desktop
- Obsidian integration and an "Ask Gemini" action in Finder are being tested
- A Customize tab for skills, apps, connectors and plugins is in development
A new unannounced model, Nano Banana 2.5 Flash, was also spotted internally. Public release timing remains unclear.
