levelsio makes 12-year-old Nomad List free after 43,252 paid members, switches to sponsor model
levelsio · x · 2026-09-05
Indie hacker levelsio announced Nomad List, his digital nomad community running for 12 years, is now (almost) free—just a $1 signup fee to deter spam. Reasons: he's already made enough money, and charging artificially caps community size ($299 → 50 new members/month, $99 → 200, $29 → 400). The community currently has 43,252 paid members (300/month for 12 years). He plans to monetize via sponsors like SafetyWing instead, aiming to make it the biggest community for digital nomads and 'network state' types, framing community and audience as things AGI can't replace.
