GPT-6 Astra Computer Use: screenshot-driven control with mid-task steering
xiaohu · x · 2026-09-05
A rundown of GPT-6 Astra's Computer Use capabilities, based on official demos:
- The model observes the screen via screenshots and operates software and browsers directly, taking on large, loosely defined tasks and pushing them forward.
- Official demo: given a photo, it paints a Van Gogh-style version and adds the Golden Gate Bridge in Krita running in the background while the user does other work.
- Async tool calls: while one tool runs, the model can work on other parts of the task, then pick results up when ready.
- Mid-task steering: you can add info or change direction mid-run; already-launched tools keep running without canceling the whole task.
- OpenAI says Astra also follows prompts better with more attention to detail, improving web pages, games, 3D scenes, slides, and writing.
