OpenAI blocks copying and saving your own long ChatGPT conversations, user alleges
transtranshumanist · reddit · 2026-09-05
A Reddit user found they cannot reliably export their own long ChatGPT conversations: bulk copy returns only fragments, print-to-PDF renders invisible text, and there is no per-conversation export button — only a full account export that takes a day or more. The culprit is the virtualized frontend that unloads messages from the page. Ironically, ChatGPT can generate a share link containing the entire thread. The author calls it a data portability failure, notes Copilot has the same behavior, and links evidence this has persisted for months.
