Astra can do 30-minute tasks without CoT, shrinking AI monitorability

AISecurityInst's Tommek Korbak reports that the new Astra model can accomplish tasks that would take a human 30 minutes without using chain-of-thought — a significant jump over previous models. That's concerning because no-CoT capability means less externalized reasoning and a smaller surface area for monitoring. Commenter tenobrus adds that providers had detailed internal reporting of these monitorability regressions and shipped anyway.
