Liverpool NLP team maps sentence encoder methods onto material discovery

Liverpool NLP researcher Bollegala will give an invited talk at the "AI in Materials Chemistry" workshop on Sept 8: Mapping the Landscape of Foundation Models for Material Representation and Discovery.
The core idea: language and chemistry share striking parallels — words/grammar shape sentences the way atoms/bonds shape materials — so NLP tools like Transformers and GNNs can transfer. The team previously used its sentence-encoder mapping work to chart material spaces and discover novel materials.
