NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced a one-year ban on generative AI for students from 2-K through 8th grade in public schools, plus screen-time limits and AI literacy lessons for high schoolers. Y Combinator president Garry Tan pushed back: AI hinders learning only for the lazy, just as bans on internet sources in college papers later proved absurd—every technology gets blamed for poisoning youth, and policy shouldn't accommodate fools.
