Xiaohongshu and vivo ship end-to-end 3D photo pipeline: 3DGS compressed to 4MB, 45FPS on mid-range Android

Xiaohongshu and vivo collaborated on an end-to-end 3D photo pipeline, from generating spatial photos in vivo's gallery to publishing, distributing, and consuming them on Xiaohongshu, built on 3D Gaussian Splatting. A new mobile-social 3D format compresses scenes from hundreds of MB down to 4MB.

Engineering highlights: publishing reuses existing image workflows with per-device model-based delivery and automatic 2D fallback; rendering plugs into the editor pipeline as an isolated layer; covariance math simplification, early culling, and hardware bilinear compositing lift mid-range Android from 30 to 45 FPS; multi-segment parallel Draco decoding and nthelement replace sorting cut load time from 1s to 300ms and memory overhead from 200MB to 100MB; Android uses Vulkan in a new cross-platform 3D player.
