New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and city officials announced a sweeping new policy imposing a one-year ban on student use of generative AI in public schools from 2-K through 8th grade, alongside screen-time limits for younger students and new AI literacy lessons for high schoolers. A retweeting father who has already taught his 7-year-old to build games with AI quipped that the ban will let his son outpace the competition.
