Reddit user uriwa flags a change on the WhatsApp Business Platform: Meta moved outbound template messages from per-24h-conversation to per-delivered-message billing, so three follow-ups in a day now cost 3x instead of 1x.
Why this hurts agent builders:
- Unpredictable bills: a 3-turn fix vs a 10-turn fix costs differently; spend scales with every model output
- Perverse UX: devs condense multi-step flows into walls of text or beg users to open the free inbound Customer Service Window
- Rented land: one pricing change can break unit economics
Workarounds: prefer inbound-initiated flows, batch confirmations, route proactive messages to web-automation numbers, track per-conversation message counts. The author builds agent infra and asks how others are redesigning flows after the repricing.
