Video gen has moved from prompting to directing — and product UX isn't ready
Kyrannio · x · 2026-09-03
The author argues that video generation has evolved from early Stable Video to high-quality output where users 'direct' models instead of prompting and hoping — making directability a core UI/UX problem. Users range from professionals to people who don't know what an aspect ratio is, so products must explicitly choose to serve beginners, intermediate, or domain-specific advanced users, or risk satisfying no one; hobbyist and professional camps may split into separate products. Using the old perfume-counter tactic (always offer two options, ask which to put back for the next one), the author argues that overwhelming users with choices creates decision paralysis — creative AI products should present one or two options at a time regardless of how large the capability surface is.
